Nightgowns...

Several days ago, Crystal at Biblical Womanhood, wrote a review for The Scarlet Thread (http://www.taylorsscarletthread.com/). After perusing their wares, I came across the nightgowns pictured on the left.

This got me thinking: I *try* to be very careful to wear feminine clothing during the day, but I often find myself in crummy pj pants and a tee shirt at night when I go to sleep. Why is this? The times that I have worn nightgowns (or at least a pretty pajama set), I have found that I feel not only comfortable, but ladylike as well! Why have I not made sure that I carry my feminine dressing into all aspects of my life?

I find this especially interesting because I am particular about making sure that our sheets are trimmed with lace and our blankets are refreshingly feminine... why am I wearing ugly things into our beautiful bed?

I found this site from a link at Mrs. B's and I love it! I'll be visiting here quite often.

Emma, I have so enjoyed reading over your site! I saw on your profile that you like the movie "The Magic of Ordinary Days." It is so good! I just watched it a couple weeks ago, and I cried. So very good. :)

Anyway, I wanted to let you know that the links under "Wonderful Websites" are wrong. There is an extra 'http' in the link that sends you to an error page. Just so you know. :)

Thanks for writing on a subject that needs to be discussed!

Emma excellent points! I have found some similar and LOVELY nightgowns like this (old fashioned with pintucks and embroidery etc) at Target of all places for reasonable prices!! Also The Vermont Country Store has a brand (can't remember the name..something with an L) they carry also that carries nightgowns like that. And April Cornell of course did but she went out of business :( but check ebay for April Cornell.

I know that this seems silly, but...

Nightgowns drive me NUTS!!! I end up waking in the middle of the night because it is either all bunched up under my back or it is being pulled down my back and the front of the collar is choking me!!!

It is a shame because I would love to wear them. They are so feminine and soft looking. I do have feminine floral capri pant/shirt jammies that are pretty. But I would prefer to wear a gown if I could find one that doesn't try to strangle me in the middle of the night! ;)

Does anyone have any suggestions for this 'problem'...?

I definitley need to invest in some girlie pjs. Since the birth of our son, my more feminine pajamas no longer fit. Great idea!

Hi Jamie! Thank you for the shopping suggestions. I looked around a bit today, but had no luck finding anything suitable. I will try the sites that you mentioned though.

P.S. I was heartbroken when April Cornell folded. Thankfully many people sell their things on ebay!

Hello, Anon.
Unfortunatly, I don't have any suggestions for you... I sometimes have a similar problem and wonder what our ancestors used to do... I wonder if anyone can shed some light on this phenomenon and give us some advice!

Hi Michelle!

I know what you're going through! I had a little girl nearly five months ago, and can't fit into many of my favorite pre-pregnancy clothes. This can be a little depressing, but I hope that I can return to them one day:)

Anonymous,

I got REALLY cute feminine pjs at Target. They were old fashioned looking camisole and bloomers in cotton (just like the pic of those nightgowns) the pantaloons/bloomers have pintucks around the cuff and the cami has inset crocheted lace and embroidered flowers. So something like that might be good for you. And I plan to use the pants in the winter to wear under my skirts (I like dressing old fashioned)

Emma,

I was heart broken over April Cornell too, but she has reopened three stores (NY, Philly, Vt) if you are close to any of those places. I have yet to make it to the philly store. Also I think she has plans to reopen her website. But I buy most of my April Cornell from ebay because it i so much cheaper!!

Hi Jamie!

Thanks for giving more detail about the Target Pjs. Also, thanks for the info about April Cornell... I didn't know that she had re-opened some of her stores. I used tolove window shopping in them:(

Love,
Emma
