A Satisfying Meal

Today was gloomy day, so I spent a little time cooking and a lot of time cozy on the couch in front of the fire.  I made The Greek Vegan's Roasted Potatoes and roasted asparagus (toss spears with a little olive oil, garlic, salt, and pepper and roast for 15 to 20 minutes on 450 degrees F). Not pictured is Ina Garten's incredible Garlic and Herb Roasted Shrimp. My husband said that the shrimp and potatoes were the best I've ever made. 👌

The children were invited to participate in a special shooting clinic with basketball legend and NBA shooting coach Dave Hopla.. he's a great shooter and a hilarious speaker!

April Fools!

The Saint Tikhon's wall calendar is trying to make an April Fool out of me.

Spring Vignettes

This and That

The daffs are out in full force here. This is the first year they've been this abundant. Are we on our way to drifts of dally-down-dillies? I think so!

The boys did their schoolwork while we waited for the mechanic to tune up the car this morning and then we had lunch out. I also took the opportunity to pop into Target for a few bottles of lilac scented hand soap, tea towels, and some probiotics for our daughter and then we spent some time at the bookstore. I particularly enjoyed reading the winter issue of Town & Country (British edition) which had an article on The Romanovs and their connection to the British monarchy.

There's presanctified at church tonight and a pot-luck meal afterwards. I'll be bringing minestrone soup to share.

One Dress, Coming Right Up

Our daughter's going to try to sew her own Pascha (Easter) dress this year with her grandmother's help. This white cotton fabric is for the slip. The dress itself will be made from dotted swiss fabric that should be arriving next week. I can't wait to see the finished product!

Slipped Stitch Tam

I started working on a Ladies Slipped Stitch Tam by Fox & Folk last night! I decided to use some fingering cotton yarn (held double) to make a lightweight one for early spring.

Emily in March

I almost forgot to read Emily this month! It's one of my favorite March picture books. I've spent the morning cutting out two Mouse Guard figures for the boys to assemble while they work on their lessons.

41!

Happy birthday to the man who always knew what he was supposed to do. We love you very much! May God grant you many years!

Crafting During an Infusion

Embroidery for her and knitting for me.

No Riff Raff

Okay. I don't know why I find this little No Riff Raff sign so funny, but I do! I spotted one on someone's feed yesterday (of course I can't find the post now) and wanted one for our house! I found the same one she had on Ebay for $32 (shipping from England!), so I decided to just make my own. I printed it with an art deco-esque font in Word (So! Fancy!) and popped into a nearby thrift store (our Friday treat!) and found this stylish frame for 75 cents. Et Voila! What do you think?

Orchestra Chaperone

I chaperoned the orchestra today! We went to compete in the first round of our state's Orchestra Festival.  The kids put on an amazing performance and were good as gold.  I got quite a bit of knitting done while watching and waiting.

Pink Glass

I'm not going to tell you how much time I spent on online trying to get my mitts on this Hearth & Hand bowl from Target last week.

Tuesday, March 12

New Dishcloths

I wove in all of the ends on my black washcloths and added them to a basket near the sink. They'll be used along with the Hearth & Hand floursack towels I've been buying little by little. I'm planning to make/buy a few more in the next few weeks.

Silver Dollar Pancakes

I just don't know why it has taken me nearly thirteen years to introduce our children to the simple joy that is silver dollar pancakes!  They are so simple to make (especially with a minute ladle) and bring such happiness to the breakfast table.  It is too bad that I remembered them on the last day to breakfast on such things before Pascha.

Friday, March 8

Living Things

We took a trip to my favorite grocery store today and saw some wonderful things on the way there. There were hundreds of snow geese dipping and soaring over some of the fields.  The photo simply doesn't do justice to their beauty.  It was also amazing to see a few pigs at one of the farms nearby!  They were adorable!

Wednesday, March 6

An Afternoon Movie

We enjoyed an afternoon viewing of the movie Christopher Robin today!  It was just added to Netflix and we've wanted to see it for a long time.  I kept tearing my eyes away to gaze at the gorgeous flowers my sister and brother-in-law sent for my birthday yesterday.  Aren't they wonderful?!

It has been a wonderful birthday!

Cherry Galette

I've been wishing for a cherry galette for days and days. I can't wait for a slice of this!

Knitting at the YMCA

Black washcloth knitting at a YMCA birthday party. It's hot in here, but I love the tile floor!
