Party!

Though we had a lovely party with my parents and two of my siblings that included a scrumptious vanilla cake topped with strawberry frosting and decorated with strawberries, we had yet to celebrate our six year-old's birthday with her choice of dinner and dessert.  I am not talented in the fancy-cake-making department (frosting and sprinkles are about as good as it gets!), so when I saw these cupcake papers and toppers at Marshalls a few months ago, I was thrilled and tucked them away for Sugar Plum's birthday.  They made quite a splash with everyone and made the cupcakes look so sweet and festive!

Meeting Lucy...

Little Man holding his cousin

Auntie Juliana with her God-daughter

We were able to meet my beautiful niece, Lucy, for the first time today!  Her baptism is scheduled for Tuesday and though it will be a whirlwind trip, I am savoring every moment that I can spend with this sweet baby girl!

Peter and Heather...

We were thrilled to attend the wedding of my brother-in-law Peter and my (first!) sister-in-law Heather today!  Sugar Plum was the flower girl and Father John served with Bishop Peter of Chicago.  It was a beautiful wedding and we enjoyed the reception very much!

God Grant You Many Years, Peter and Heather!

Now We are Six...

When I was one I had just begun
When I was two I was nearly new

When I was three I was hardly me
When I was four I was not much more

When I was five I was just alive
But now I am six, I'm as clever as clever;

So I think I'll be six now for ever and ever.

Farmer's Market!

We've started to explore the town that we live in a bit more and have discovered that less than five minutes away is a gorgeous farmer's market every Wednesday and Friday!  Joy!  With Little Man's school coming to a close (we go Mondays and Thursdays for speech therapy), we are planning on being able to spend a little more time in pursuits we enjoy.  Going to town for our produce is certainly going to be a priority!  The little ones love picking things to put into our basket and my favorite thing to do is to stop by the flower stall on our way out...  Look at those peonies!

Ascension...

O Christ God, You have ascended in Glory,
Granting joy to Your disciples by the promise of the Holy Spirit.
Through the blessing they were assured
That You are the Son of God,

The Redeemer of the world!

Block Crayons!

Despite always wanting to, I have never made made block crayons.  My little ones somehow heard about making them and have been asking if we could try to make them ourselves.  We had an errand to run at Hobby Lobby this morning and on a whim, we bought a large box of crayons to try our luck.  The first thing we did was to sort the crayons by color.  Next, we peeled the paper off , broke the crayons up, and divided them into a silicone baking pan.  We baked them for about eight minutes in a 275 degree oven and then cooled them in the freezer for approximately 20 minutes.  I love how they turned out!  The children immediately grabbed paper and spent lots of time coloring, which was gratifying to see.  We will be going on a few long car rides soon, so I may hide these away so that there is something exciting to do in the car.  Paired with paper and clipboards, the little ones should enjoy coloring with their new crayons a lot!

The Song of the Honeysuckle Fairy...

The lane is deep, the bank is steep,
The tangled hedge is high;
And clinging, twisting, up I creep,
And climb towards the sky.
O Honeysuckle, mounting high!
O Woodbine, climbing to the sky!

The people in the lane below
Look up and see me there,
Where I my honey-trumpets blow,
Whose sweetness fills the air.
O Honeysuckle, waving there!
O Woodbine, scenting all the air!
