Overheard...

Daughter: (over the speakerphone in the car) Papa, why is the number 666 the devil's number?
Papa: I will have to tell you about it when you come home later.
Daughter: (after Papa hangs up the phone) Oh, fiddlesticks! Now he's going to prepare a sermon for us.
Eldest Son: It will probably be as long as one of Saint John Chrysostom's. We'll have to remember to clap when it's over.

Little Man: Papa, I faced my fears today.
Papa: Really? That's great!
Little Man: Yes! I changed the toilet roll.
(As hilarious as this conversation was, he WAS attacked by the toilet paper roll insert a few years ago. The spring shot one of the the metal pieces right into his face and he needed to have his eyebrow glued together at Urgent Care.)

Sugar Plum: Either I'm getting better at telling jokes or Papa's
getting weaker at being serious, because I've been making him smile
more.

Mama: Mmm. Smells good!
Little Man: Why does Papa smell like this all the time?
Mama: I think it's because he's in church pretty often.
Little Man: Oh. I thought that it might be because he was holy.

Mama: Why can't I keep you small forever?
Button: "You can't undo what's already been done."
-quoted by our seven-year-old... not from the wonderful children's
books that I lovingly read with him, but that dratted television show,
Ninjago.

After the polite back-and-forth to decide which priest (my father-in-law or husband) would say the prayer after the meal, I commented that someday there will be more blessing indecision if our sons become priests (as they plan to).
Husband: Oh, I thought Button wanted to be a bishop. If that is the case, he will outrank the rest of us.
Button: I don't want to be a bishop! I want to be a saint like Saint Nicholai!

While discussing the advances of medical science over the years, Sugar
Plum (age 10) commented, "We are very fortunate that we no longer live
in a time like, say, 1999."

After observing his 20-month-old cousin bow and cross himself nearly constantly during our morning prayers, Little Man remarked, "He's very religious!"

Overheard...
Our youngest was looking at a pop-up book of special American landmarks and he excitedly pointed out "The Statue of Italy" to his father. When we corrected him and tried to get him to pronounce "Lib-er-tee,", he proudly exclaimed, "Statue of Little Italy!"

Witticisms from our five year-old:
"There's three important things in life: love the Lord, love the Church, and do everything good."
:::::
Our son's godmother generously dropped off a giant rubbermaid tote of
Legos that her son has outgrown at my father-in-law's house. Our
children were very excited about taking a peek in the box, so we put it
in the trunk and just before I cracked open the lid for them to see the
treasures inside, Button said, "I have a good feeling about
this!"

The Trio is in the midst of taking the first hot baths since the hot water heater broke five days ago. So far, I've heard the following exclamations:
"Ahhhhh. This is glorious!" (Button, age 5)
"What a hot, delicious bath!" (Sugar Plum, age 9)
"I'm addicted to this hot water." (Button, age 5)
"I never knew washing my hair could be so wonderous!" (Little Man, age 7)

Little Man: Do you know that bagel with the birdseed all over it?
Mama: An everything bagel?
Little Man: Yes. I would like a birdseed bagel with cream cheese.

Little Man: Button, when you ask me where your helmet is and I say, "that's not my concern," what does that mean?
Button (without missing a beat): Sin.

Overheard...
I was holding Button (age 5) and couldn't resist taking a small nibble from his upper arm (because I was born a Straut). In retaliation, he bit my shoulder (because Straut blood runs through his veins) and I said, jesting, "No, no, no. You don't bite your mama." He replied, "But you bited me and the Lord says not to bite people!"
Have you ever read anything about that in the Scriptures? I sure haven't!
