I think that is great! Once or twice a year my mom would do something totally different for breakfast, like hot fudge sundaes! Now that I think of it, I should do it with my own children, as it is such a fond memory!
Having grown up in upstate NY, I can attest that this was a very valid Yankee tradition, especially with the early colonists :) So indulge without the guilt. In fact, Americans originally ate apple pies as a side dish or breakfast, not as a dessert. They often served it with slices of cheese.~Bethany
