Closet Transformations: The Baby Changing Closet...

We have two closets facing one another in our master bedroom. After reading all about creating a family closet on Meredith's blog and then in the book, A Place for Everything, I was determined to create one in our new home. With the washer and dryer upstairs and these two spacious closets, it seems like it would work really well to have our clothes in the larger closet and our linens in the smaller one. The only problem I could imagine was the fact that the changing table was in the nursery. Would it be better to put off the idea of having a family closet until our children were potty trained? Here are pictures of my solution to the problem:

Here was the double door closet before I did anything. Since I had been planning to make it into a linen closet, I was storing some of our towels, sheets, blankets, etc. inside. After trying several different ways of trying to store the linens on the one shelf in the closet, it was clear that I should abandon the narrow closet as a linen closet (we do have a proper one in the hall) and use it for something else:

Ta Da! Now I have all the things that I need to change the baby right across from the closet with our clothes, accessories, and hamper! The best part is that the master bathroom is only a few short steps away!

What a cute little nook you've created!

How incredibly cute! I've been thinking of taking off the closet doors in my daughter's room to create a "reading nook," but wasn't sure how I'd go about doing it. This gives me some great inspiration! What are those pink things you have strung across? Are those like little Christmas lights or are they just a garland?

LOVE IT!

Hi Mommy Bee!

Thank you!

The pink things are actually a strand of lights my sister found in the patio section of Target. They are little Christmas lights that are covered with red metal flowers. Hubby is going to see if he can find a way to plug them in somehow. Our baby is enamored with them just as the are though!

I'm glad you posted this because hubby and I live in a small cottage with only 2 bedrooms. When I have another baby, he or she will have to share the bedroom with Bubby. The bedroom is small, but it has a good sized walk in closet. I've kicked around ideas for turning the closet into a changing room.
