Baby Boy: Update One...

The Cradle, Berthe Morisot
Our little baby is doing so well! He was on 40% oxygen after birth, but by 24 hours old he was completely breathing on his own. He has been eating mama's milk for a few feedings now and seems much more peaceful than he was the night he was born. I'll keep you updated as I can. I am being discharged today, so please pray for us all, since it was very hard to leave our first son, Little Man, in the hospital (he was born at 32 weeks and had to stay in the NICU for 3 Weeks).

Matushka,

Congratulations! I'm very happy he's doing so well for such a little thing. Mama's milk is best - especially for "early bird" babies! Prayers for you and your family as you head home today (and for Baby too, of course. (c; )

Your little man is in my prayers. I am so sorry you have to leave him behind for the time being. I was not only allowed, but made to stay with my son when he was in the hospital being treated for jaundice after his preterm birth. May he be in your home and arms very soon and may he put on weight quickly and not have jaundice.

Our twin girls were born 8 weeks prem weighing 3'10" and 4'2". They had to remain at the hospital for a month. Prems need to be gaining weight, feeding well, able to hold their own temp, and breathing well before they can come home. It was an experience for sure. As we lived 1 1/2 hours from the hospital they allowed me to live there so I could pump for their tube feedings. Now they are very active 12 year olds. Time flies!

Our family wishes yours the best and also wishes we were close enough to bring suppers and scrub bathrooms for you! Congratulations on the birth of your son!!!!

I'm happy to hear that your precious little one is doing so well considering he was preterm, and that's so wonderful that you were able to give him mama's milk. That can be a difficult feat with early ones. And I'm so sorry you have to be discharged from the hospital without him. All of you are in our prayers.

You and your family are in my prayers. I remember our time with Robby in the NICU. I can't imagine doing that with other littles.

That is incredible that he is breathing on his own!! I am so relieved to read that.

I know how hard it was to leave Punky in the NICU, so I am going to be praying extra hard for you guys tonight!

Lord have mercy. I would find this hard too. This part I don't know if I like about the biomedical field (making mother go home etc)... but apparently I survived the same... I was in the hospital a few weeks after birth as I too was a premie. May the Holy Theotokos protect and comfort you all.

It is hard to understand why they would keep him and not you, especially since you are nursing. May God grant you to be with baby as much as possible, and may He help your family through this unsettled time.

Congratulations! How wonderful that he is doing SO WELL, despite having come so early. He must be so tiny, and I can understand how tough it would be to have to leave him at the hospital.

One thing - you'll have to think of a different name than 'Little Man'...could be a bit confusing with two little men!

Oh, thanks Helen! I didn't realize that my sentence was unclear. All of our children have been early birds, but our first son, Little Man had to stay in the NICU for three weeks as well. I clarified that in my post after I read your comment:) We have yet to finalize a name for our baby boy in "real life." As soon as that is done, I am going to work on his blogging name!
