Living and Learning: The Week Ahead...

Church in the Home
These are the final few days of the Dormition Fast.  I'm excited to celebrate the feast!  We also have our patronal feast day on Sunday, August 16th.  It's going to be a fun and busy weekend!

Following
While wandering around on Instagram the other night, I came across Heather Clawson's account, Habitually Chic on Instagram.  I love New York City and Habitually Chic is the perfect little daily glimpse into the Big Apple.

Historical Enthusiasm
I went to the library on Saturday to pick up a dvd and ended up meandering down the stacks.  Though I didn't really need another book, La's Orchestra Saves the World caught my eye and I spent an hour or so devouring the first few chapters as soon as I got home.  Now I have fallen down the rabbit hole of World War II books, television programs, and movies.  Some of my favorites:  Charlotte Gray, The Monuments Men, Wartime Farm, Woman in Gold, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society

Learning
We are now in week two of our school year and though things are a bit bumpy, we're doing pretty well.  One of the things that I have begun to do is to keep a running list of all of the educational (outside of our books) things that we are up to on a daily basis.  I think that will help me when I am organizing my paperwork for our homechool reviews.  An unexpected benefit to keeping a record of these things is the realization of how much our work happens after the school books are closed.

In Season
According to the answering machine message on our peach orchard's phone, we will be able to pick peaches at some point this week (we're hopeful for Wednesday).  We can't wait to pick and are already planning the different ways that we will use these precious fruits.  The current favorite way to enjoy them is in a bowl with yogurt.

What are you using for school this year? I'm currently reading Rilla of Ingleside, so I am now digging deeper into World War I. I am really enjoying the book and its focus

I adore Wartime Farm and all the others Ruth Goodman is in. Another good one (sans Ruth Goodman, though) is Wartime Kitchen and GGarden on YouTube.
