Copywork: Mother Teresa...

I've been spending some time each week looking for interesting things for my children to write in their copywork notebooks.  I love good quotes and thought that I would post the ones that I have selected this week in honor of Valentine's Day.  Is this something that would be helpful on a weekly basis?

:::::

"Spread love everywhere you go.  Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier."

"Let us always meet each other with a smile, for the smile is the beginning of love."

"If you judge people, you have no time to love them."

"Not all of us can do great things.  But we can do small things with great love."

"A life not lived for others is not a real life."
-Mother Teresa

What are your thoughts on using quotes like this vs. Bible verses for copywork? On one hand, any additional interaction with Scripture is good, but on the other, there are a lot of places where the grammar doesn't reflect standard usage. I don't know if the latter would be confusing for a young child or not.

These are beautiful. Where do you typically find quotes like this - do you actively search for them or do you use them as you come across them? We mostly copy poems that we like, but sometimes and I let them choose which one, but sometimes no one wants to make a choice and it's up to me, so it would be nice to have a stash of errors set aside for those times! I suppose Bible verses would fit the bill...

Also, where did you find the notebook with the blank space on top? I have been searching and searching for something like that and can't find any I like.

C.G., I look for quotes from the Bible, church services, books/poems we read, and quotes from inspiring people that I come across. I like to have a mix of things, because I want them to see how language is used in all different types of writing.

Thanks, Elizabeth!!

Lisa A., I have been finding them in very unexpected places. Patricia Polacco (the children's author/illustrator) has a very active facebook page where she posts all sorts of lovely things, but especially quotes. I found one of the Mother Teresa ones there and then did a google search for more. It is sometimes easiest to stick with a theme;)

I purchased the notebooks at our local education supply store, but I think that they are on Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=Pacon%20primary%20journal%20picture%20story

My second grader's book is 1/2 inch ruled and our kindergartener's is 5/8 inch ruled.

What a beautiful idea. And those words aren't just on paper, they will seep into little minds.
