Women's Group...

This afternoon was the first gathering of our church's Women's Group. We met at our house and the children played while their mamas got to know one another better. After an early dinner, we headed out to church for Vespers. It was such a nice time and I am so thankful that we are doing this! It can get pretty lonely being an Orthodox Christian mother (and priest's wife!) because life can be so different for us, and I think that these afternoons of fellowship will really rejuvenate us and help us to feel more and more like a church family.

You are blessed to have Orthodox women locally!

I am! Our church has really grown by leaps and bounds this past year and we've added lots of families (there are at least 9 new children in our community!) so it was time to start the Woman's Group...

My women's group has been a wonderful blessing to me the last couple of years, I hope that you all are able to grow in friendship!

P.S. I have never commented before, though I have followed your blog for quite some time and love it! You have a beautiful ability to write! My husband is discerning a call to the priesthood and so I appreciate hearing about your real life experiences.

that is a real blessing! Yes, it can be hard to be Orthodox esp in North America where the culture is not formed and informed by Orthodoxy like other countries historically have been etc!

I hope these times can continue for you and your Parish!! Make sure the single ladies can come too (we like to be included! :) )

blessed blessed weekend!!

What a great idea!!! I'm going to think on this idea some. Our parish is small and not many families with children. But it might be nice to start a home school family gathering once a week or something to just get together.

How lovely! How did you start your group? I've been asked to do something like that for mothers of young children at our church, but it's hard to just get a hold of people to see whether they'd be interested.

That is great! Women coming together to support one another is always a great thing. I am sorry that you feel so "different" in your community, but I suppose that is to be expected. Enjoy the new blessing in your life!

Hi Magda,
We just kind of took a poll to see when people would be available. For us, it was Saturdays because a lot of our ladies work. We decided to have it at about 3pm (so children who napped could) and then we had a potluck dinner at about 4:30 and headed out to church at 5:40. We'll probably try to do some Mom's Night Out, a few classes (with Father John) and some other things. As of now, we are hoping to meet once a month. I'll keep everyone posted!
