Preparing for Nativity: Day Five...

Well, I've just finished baking and decorating the St. Nicholas Cookies for tonight. We are going to have church, a movie on St. Nicholas, and refreshments at 7pm. I was also able to do my on-line Christmas shopping today and while our daughter was napping, I went to run a few errands with Little Man. We had fun getting some things at the health food store, the regular grocery store, and a consignment shop (Hurray for finding my FAVORITE skirt in a new color - a beautiful dark brown!!).

Unfortunately I looked at the Saint Nicholas center website way too late to order those cookie cutters in time. I guess I will have to try and shape my speculaas by hand. *G* Luckily there was a little care package from Belgium with chocolates in the right shape.

Just wanted to add that I have the recipe for traditional Dutch Saint Nicholas cookies, if you are interested. *chuckles* I know you aren't Dutch but it's just another way to celebrate unity all over the world.

That's awesome on the thrift shop find!

The cookies look great! I'm waiting to decorate mine first thing in the morning. I can't believe St. Nicholas Day is already upon us! I just spent the entire afternoon pre-cutting the pieces for the mobile for the kids at our shindig tomorrow.

I just read about the death of the Russian Orthodox Patriarch. And wanted to offer my condolences. I remember how our Orthodox brothers and sisters reached out to us at the death of our beloved pope.

Eternal rest grant unto him, Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace.

Hi Eva!

I'd love the recipe!!

Though my father's side of the family has been in America for 13 generations, they originated in Holland! Our name was Straatmaker before is was Americanized.
