Keeping Warm...

I've been thinking about keeping the little ones warm these past few days. I am particularly concerned about our littlest. Button is prone to sickness (he has been sick every other week since August due to neutropenia) and so we've been dressing him in layers: hat (even indoors), undershirt, long-sleeve shirt, sweater, pants, socks (look at the wooly socks my sister Kate knitted him!), and slippers or shoes.

Though our older children tend to be warm during the day, I am having trouble keeping them toasty through the night and first thing in the morning once they are up and about. They are now wearing undershirts under their pajamas and I will be getting them some slippers to wear with their socks once they get up. Now the trick will be to get them to not kick their blankets off at night!! Hopefully that will be enough to keep them warm.

Here's Some Food For Thought:

I'm trying to keep my kids warm, too. I got Joseph a "sleep sack" for older babies, and he at least can't kick it off. I actually found an inexpensive one at a thrift store.

I am on the search for inexpensive silk long johns for kids. Not that they'd actually WEAR them... but a mom can hope, right? :)

I'm sorry Button has been sick!!

The boys have been wearing undershirts and thermal shirts over their pajamas for bed! Baby Brother has an extra layer too: cotton sleeper then fleece on top. This reminds me Big Brother needs a new set of woolens too and they all still need slippers (but I don't think the older two will wear them anymore).

When my little ones were little, pjs with feet and blanket sleepers were really useful to keep them warm.

Halo has a line of blanket sleepers for big kids (up to 5T).

My children don't seem to be able to keep clothes on, even when I think they have to be cold!

I'm sorry Button has been so sick. You might could stitch up the sides/end of their blankets and sheets and make a sort of sleeping bag (they couldn't kick it off). that would also be easy to rip out the seams later if you don't need to keep them so warm next summer.

The socks finally fit! Seeing them on his feet last week inspired me to keep knitting baby socks. Up until then, I worried that it wasn't worth it, but they were so cute sticking out of his little shoes!

Thank you for the useful tips all across this site! They are extremely helpful in transitioning from Florida to Iowa (via Minnesota) this fall!
