St Emilia...

How fitting that the day before Mother's Day falls (this year), is St. Emilia's feast day! She was an exemplary model of motherhood and I am honored to be named after her! We were fortunate to spend the day at the consecration of Bishop Michael (Dahulich) and in the company of many of our friends... especially Sugar Plum's godfather!!

She was the mother of St Basil the Great, St. Macrina, St. Gregory of Nyssa and St. Peter of Sebaste. She had wanted to remain a life-long virgin, but was forced to marry. She bore nine children, and so thoroughly grounded them in Christian discipleship that at least four became recognized Saints in the Church. She founded a monastery in her old age, where she lived with her daughter Macrina, and where she entered into rest in the Lord on May 8th, 375. She is patron to those named Emily.

Many years, Matushka Emily! And happy mother's day!

My priest and his family were at the consecration. :) I had the honor of meeting Bishop Michael (Dahulich) about a month ago when he was here visiting Alaska.

Many Years, Matushka! I always forget that her feast also falls in May on the Greek calendar. My Emmelia celebrates on Jan. 1 (slavic calendar). (At least I think that's right. ;) I hope you had a great trip and a wonderful Name Day and Mother's Day.

Love to you.

Many Years, Matushka!

I dearly love Bishop Michael. When we got to seminary he was the only one who cared about the seminarians' wives and children too. Such a gentle man.
