.:Parsley tucked into a spice jar:.We are fortunate that we have a hydrangea bush in our front yard, but it is the first time in our married life that we have had flowers at our disposal to cut and use inside our home. If you don't have flowers to cut from your garden, there are many other options! Our grocery store has a small floral department and they sell bunches for $3 or $4. An alternative is to enjoy cuttings from potted herbs. I find that this looks gorgeous and increases the chance that the fresh herbs will be used in cooking or garnishing. I have also been known to take little scissors with me on our walks to cut a few wildflowers growing around. I particularly like how clover looks in canning jars.
.:Clover picked on a walk:.One trick that I have employed as far as fresh flowers go, is to use small vases, glasses, and jars for my flowers. This stretches the bouquet much farther than if I use a large container. In addition, I can put several tiny bouquets around the house rather than just one large one (though that is nice, too!!).

Oh, your hydrangeas bloomed! Did Fr. John bring those in for you? So sweet.
I just brought home 2 bunches of yellow filler flowers (very cheap!) and have a set of 3 white metal milk jugs of differing heights. I love to separate a bunch of flowers between the 3 of them and keep them on the bar of our kitchen.
Fr John has been taking the children outside for the past few days after the majority of his work is done. Sugar Plum kept nagging him to cut flowers for me, but they weren't quite ready. He did the next best thing two days ago and snapped a few pictures with his phone and sent her in with it. Too cute! They still aren't all the way bloomed, but I think that they will finish up inside and we (I) can enjoy one of my favorite flowers from the couch.
I love the differing height look! I have three candle holders that are various heights and on Tuesday before the bedrest news hit, I went to Michael's and saw that they have metal lanterns for candles (similar to ones that I saw in Pottery barn for a lot more!). I bought two small ones and hope to get back there for a medium sized one before they are all gone. I may have to send one of my sisters or mom out! I think that they will look so good on the mantle.
I am sure that is helps your mood to see beautiful things around you.
I also love to buy a cheap bouquet of flowers and divide it throughout the entire house. I love having flowers in the house.
I saw your post earlier and lamented the lack of flowers here (except dandelions and they just don't keep well cut) to join you in this lovely touch in the house. Then, my little boy came home from his day out with his friend and handed me a big bouquet of cut flowers his host's parents bought for him to give me! Awwwwww!

When we moved to our current home, it took us a few years to get through a pile of firewood that had been left behind, after which we took out the woodstove -- it was just too much work for dh. Imagine our delight to find, the next year, a small patch of maybells (lily of the valley), which had been my wedding flower! Over the past 20 years, that small patch has grown to take over 1/4 of the garden, and every year, I have a bouquet of maybells for my anniversary. This year, they look especially lovely in our newly refurbished icon corner.
