Moving Again...

We received word this past week that our landlords (at the house) are not going to renew our lease (I think that they want to move to this area). When we heard about this, I was really heartbroken because I really like this house and I thought that when we left it would be because we were the ones choosing to leave. It doesn't look like the church is going to go for the mansion that I mentioned a few weeks ago, so we need a new home. We spent yesterday looking and there are some beautiful townhomes (think finished basement for a guest bedroom and Father's office, hardwood floors, a sunny morning room, etc!) that are available to either rent or buy only eleven minutes from the church! We're keeping our options open - rent or buy in this area or move on to a different church/ministry. I'll keep you posted! Either way, there's going to be a lot going on around here the next six months!

You are in our prayers - I know hoe difficult it can be. For us, when Father and I got married we did not know what parish we would go to, so we moved in with my parents temporarily. Well 2.5 years later and we are still here. It is hard because when you are an assistant priest, you are alwats afraid that they might transfer you. It is the perfect time for us to buy a place, but if we need to move suddenly, then it will be impossible to sell. That is why we must leave it in God's hands and He will take care of us. Hang in there - it will all work out!

Presbytera Kathy, maybe it's time for someone to point out to your Bishop that married priests need, hel-LO, STABILITY for their families?!?!?! We have a Bishop who used to move people around like so many chess pieces, but has since gotten a clue that most of his priests own homes and need to be able to sell the house/place their kids in a school/take into account their wives' jobs, etc.

Matushka Emma, you and Father remain in my prayers. Is it worth asking your Bishop if he has plans to move you anytime soon? Because if not, this is the *ideal* time to buy a place, and a townhouse is, frankly, unbeatable -- minimal property upkeep (usually associations take care of that), a place to plant a small flower garden, and the basement you describe would be *perfect* for a priest's office. (And guest room, if you insist -- hopefully, Father won't need his office in the middle of the night.) ;-)

I would definitely try to purchase rather than rent, though. We weren't able to buy our first home till we were in our 40s -- 18% interest rates ring a bell with anybody here? I didn't think so -- and we were constantly getting pushed around from pillar to post. You need a place that *you* own.

Moving can be daunting and disrupting but also very exciting. I pray that you feel God's hand and peace in this process--it is a much more encouraging experience when you do :)

My aunt and uncle used to live in a townhouse and there were lots of advantages! My fondest memory of it as a child was the playground right behind their house basically enclosed by the "block" of homes. It was great!

There is always sadness that comes with moving, but it can also be a time of adventure. I'll be praying for your family during this time of transition.

Em--I was hoping that the mansion idea was going to work! We will be thinking of you...and maybe, just maybe, it would be an opportunity to move back towards home so that we could see you more often!! In fact, there is an Orthodox community right here on the North Fork.............

love you tons! Aunt Jen and all
