A Poor Mama's Movable Alphabet....

For awhile now, I have wanted to buy a Movable Alphabet for Sugar Plum. Though they are not terribly expensive and I would get a lot of use out of it since we have three children who will all need to learn the alphabet and how to spell and write, I have put it off. I was looking for something to occupy Little Man (who is very into little things lately) this morning, and I pulled out the Bananagram game that I bought for Fr John's stocking last Christmas. As our little guy was playing with the pieces on the carpet, it occurred to me that this game (that we have never played with!) was a movable alphabet! Since it is a word game, it has multiples of commonly used letters and is perfect for little ones to use! As a bonus, it is readily available in many stores (we got ours at Target).

Oh my - I feel so stupid! We have Scrabble sitting RIGHT THERE and I've never thought to use it for that. Pickles and Ginger would have a fit.

Sheesh.

Good idea!

I LOVE Bananagram! We also have Scrabble, Perquacky, and Boggle, which can all be used for word games. Playing Scrabble and Perquacky with my mom was my favorite way to work on learning new words when I was a child (starting at around 7).

Oh how fun! My children always loved the little plastic alphabet letters with magnets that spelled out a new word on the refrigerator almost every day! They aren't at all expensive and a great way to learn colors too!
Have fun!

I bought one of those sets last year, specifically for teaching reading. We love it!

What great ideas! I never would have thought to just use a game we have around the house. Thanks for the tip!
