Curly Girl...

Since I have always wanted to have long, curly hair and have been fascinated (but still nervous) by the no 'poo movement, when I recently stumbled on to the Curly Girl pages on YLCF, I was intrigued.

I am now on day four ( of 21) of my Curly Girl experiment and it is going well... my hair hasn't been that greasy (despite copious amounts of conditioner) and is nicely wavy. I am dying to run a comb though it but am restrain myself and am trying to figure out how to get rid of bed-head (since I don't wash it everyday).

Have you ever tried this hair regime? Did you like it? Any tips?

Hi, I am also a curly girl and have been loving it. I think each curly girl has their own personal routine that stems off of the method.I have a good trick to get rid of bed-head (which I suffer from often). John-Freida Frizz-Ease spray. In the morning you just spray and scrunch and it renews your curls for the new day. I hope this helps!

Hi Emma,

I do a version of this method too. I use shampoo (I tried several months without it and decided it was too greasy for me), but not everyday. I usually wet my hair in the shower and use just conditioner for several days in between, letting it dry again. I can sometimes get away with spraying some water on it and re-scrunching, but sometimes my hair decides to do some crazy stuff in the middle of the night and I can't undo it without the shower.

I also do her hair-cutting method now. I actually learned to do it myself. I love it. I always had such a hard time getting haircuts from people who just treated my hair like it was straight.

Good luck!

As a fellow curly haired girl, I've been reluctant to try it. Keep us posted!

Hi Emma, I don't have curly hair, but I do have wavy hair. I tried the conditioning only and you can view my progress here http://growingupgracefully.blogspot.com/search/label/Experimenting

Maybe if I would have used the vinegar rinse it would have helped?

I'm curly too, though my hair isn't looong anymore. (I'm trying to grow it back out, but it's slow going!)

I try not to use too much on my curly hair, but I haven't gone no 'poo altogether. I am using more natural, chemical free shampoo/conditioner now, though. Like Joy of Frugal Living, sleeping on my hair usually totally wrecks my curls and they just look frizzy and/or flat. I guess the best way to describe it would be as if I was a straight-haired person who had my hair curled, put into an updo then slept on it. The only way to undo that and reclaim the curliness is by showering. I also am very selective about who cuts my hair because most stylists don't understand how curly hair works. Finding someone with curly hair to trim mine is usually the way to go!

Keep us posted. I'm always looking for new ideas for my hair.

I love that book!!! My hair is long and wavy, and I've been doing CG (my own version of it) for months now... my hair is definitely very happy:-)! I do use a fragrance and dye-free baby shampoo every once in awhile, just because it seems more, well, clean.

Thanks for the links! I'm a curly girl, usually a frizzy wavy girl. But Saturday my mom put my hair in a ponytail and chopped of the top (*not* right next to the band!) to create more layers. Then I followed the rountine and had great curls for Pascha. Even today my high school students are noticing and commenting.

Have a bright week!

Sounds awesome, I've heard of this, but may have to check out the book! I think my hair is wavy, not curly.
