Breaking Habits at Forty

I'm trying so hard to break my nail biting habit and I think this Londontown duo is really helping.

Carnelian

I went a little wild today and chose a daring nail polish for my at-home pedicure. Normally, I'm a fan of dolce de leche by OPI, but decided to live a little with this carnelian shade.

Rose Perfection

I popped into my favorite local florist today to get a bunch of eucalyptus, but ended up leaving with three of the most perfect roses!

Color

The sky today was so dramatic today. It seemed like there was going to be a big storm, but nothing came from them.  I love muted colors of winter and I seem to be dressing in them unconsciously, too!

In My Make-Up Bag...

I really don't wear much make-up, but when I recently had to replace everything in my make-up bag (my handbag was stolen from our car along with our car's radio and GPS while it was parked in the church parking lot), I spent some time thinking about what I wanted to purchase and what I would actually use on a daily basis.  I really wanted to keep things simple, so I chose a concealer, one eye shadow, mascara, and two lip balms.

Here are the contents of my make-up bag:

Lancome Maquicomplet Concealer in Ivoire

Clinique Eye Shadow in Frosted Blossom

L'Oreal Voluminous Mascara in Black Brown

Burt's Bees Tinted Lip Balm in Pink Blossom

Burt's Bees Replenishing Lip Balm with Pomegranate Oil

I was also able to replace my three leather zippered pouches (Just in time!  They are nowhere on the internet since I bought them!) and I am hoping to be able to purchase another bottle of my favorite peony perfume in the next few weeks or so.  I also remembered the other day that I usually keep a small bottle of Visine to brighten my eyes when I am tired and a travel sized lotion.

What's in your make-up bag?

Feminine Friday: Signature Scent...

After searching for years to find a signature scent, I have finally found one! It is L'Occitane's Pivoine Flora. I have been using the Pivoine Flora Eau de Toilette roll on which I can easily fit into my handbag for a quick dab on the go for six months or so, but I 'd like to eventually upgrade to a bottle of the perfume for a more lasting scent. I really like that I found something that is delicate and feminine. I didn't want a chemically smelling perfume and this feels natural to me. It is nice to fling on a scarf and catch a very faint whiff of my perfume... such a happy smell!

Curls...

I was able to see some family at my sister's baby shower on Sunday and was so excited when my aunt told me all about a how she gets curly hair by simply washing it and wrapping it around a headband when it is damp, and sleeping on it. I'm not sure what video she watched to learn this technique, but here is one I found on YouTube. I tried it last night and really liked the results. I think that my hair was a little too wet when I wrapped it because it was still slightly damp this morning. Despite that, it is quite wavy (I did end up putting a little bit of mousse in to help hold the curl) and I am excited to try again tonight! I feel all dolled up! Has anyone else tried getting curls this way?

Pedicures and Sisters...

Thank you, Anna! My "Pascha Egg Red" toes are still giving me a thrill every time I spot them!

Haircut!

I haven't gone to get my haircut since July 2008... that is a long time even for me! My hair was getting scraggly at the ends and I always get the urge to get a makeover around my birthday. I didn't really have anything in mind, but I went to a lady that I knew I could trust. I just told her that I wanted the natural curl in my hair to come out and that I didn't want it cut too short. She gave me lots of layers and instructions to scrunch, scrunch, scrunch. Unlike last time, I am very happy!

P.S. Don't look to closely at the top of my head... lots o' gray!
