Two weeks ago, I happily embarked upon my willow garden border, but the project was stalled by a week of rain last week and spring cleaning this week. Here are two pictures of my progress:

On Monday morning, we awoke to a landscaping crew descending upon our neighbors lawn. When they finished yesterday, their yard looked like this:

Now I have a problem. We are already known for our ghetto-fabulous lawn because we don't water or use weed killer on it in the summer and because our landlords do not want to put any more money into the yard. I sadly said to Fr. John that my willow fence looked pathetic in comparison to the pro-landscaping job our neighbors now have and he just roared with laughter!
Do I continue to build my willow fence or do I buy a little store bought fencing from the garden center so that our yard conforms a little more to the development's standards?

I wish our sub. had more character. Keep it up!
I'm no fan of development rules. In my opinion they should be glad that renters are doing any landscaping at all--and yours looks beautiful to boot! Keep up the good work.
I say keep your willow fence. I think it's beautiful.
Why conform to cookie cutter calamity, stick with that beautiful fence you are making yourself, I was actually going to ask how you did that? I would like to learn. Besides I am sure your originality vs Desperate Housewife curb appeal is much more enjoyable than you think by the people that may just be driving by!
I agree - I would stick with your project and not go out and buy something. Money cannot buy the joy of adding to your home's beauty and charm by homemade things.
I think it is very cute! I vote to stick with it as well.
stick with it! be bold! be brave! be beautiful!! :) Kelly
As long as you aren't violating the CC&Rs, I'd say go for the willows.
Keep it. I think that often the store bought fencing (especially faux wood plastic) can look TERRIBLE and so cheap. I think your willow border looks charming! That said, I'd love some professional landscaping too. I spent all morning out there and I barely scratched the surface!
I can just imagine your tone as you lamented your ghetto fab lawn to Fr. John and his response. Hehe.
I like the willow fence!
