Overheard
We drew crosses on our kids' jerseys for basketball this year (they aren't allowed to wear chains for safety reasons). Here's a conversation between our son and a teammate:
"Why do you have the letter t on your shirt?"
"It is a cross. I am an Orthodox Christian."
"What's an Orthodox Christian?"
"Ask your mom what it is and she'll explain everything."

Goodbye, Christmas
It was sad to take down our Christmas decorations today, but we had a snow day and some time to get things done. I left up the eucalyptus garland on our console table and left up/set up a few wintry vignettes around the house for cheer. I adore winter and am so glad that we have a little snow and that it is properly cold now.

Feed the Birds
I've neglected my birds this winter and want to do a better job. I
filled the feeder this morning in preparation for a little bit (1" to
3") of snow we expect this weekend. This little tray reminds me of the
bird feeders in Gerda Muller's books.

Rose Perfection
I popped into my favorite local florist today to get a bunch of eucalyptus, but ended up leaving with three of the most perfect roses!

In the Warm Sun
My breakfasts are normally eaten before sunrise now, but I waited until after school drop off and a trip to the market today. It is glorious to eat in the sun on a frosty January morning.

In the Bleachers
I found the Persephone biannually that I didn't get a chance to read under the couch last night. It coordinates with today's outfit : my favorite grey pullover, yesterday's trousers, and my old boots with the ground down heels and a fresh polish.
I wish I had a video for you of our daughter playing defense! At one point she was hanging on to the ball and being lifted off the ground and swung by one of the girls on the opposing team.

Color
The sky today was so dramatic today. It seemed like there was going to be a big storm, but nothing came from them. I love muted colors of winter and I seem to be dressing in them unconsciously, too!

Anna's Nativity
I love seeing how my sister's make their homes cozy and comfortable. This Nativity Set is my sister's and though she plans on eventually painting the walls of her dining room, I love how the figures and wreath look all together!

Grey Days
This was a pretty rough week for our family. We
are grieving my poor grandfather's death after a rapid decline on
December 29th and almost simultaneously, our daughter's infusion drug
wore off and she was plunged back into the severe symptoms of Crohn's
disease. She was finally admitted for an overnight at the hospital on
Friday morning for a work-up and infusion. My darling husband took care
of her so that I could attend Poppy Chick's Memorial in Brooklyn. She
seems to be returning to health following the infusion, thank God.
Please pray for the repose of the soul of grandfather, Charles, and
peace for my grandmother, Judith.

This Year's GIngerbread House
We have decorated gingerbread houses during the Twelve Days of Christmas for years now, so I picked up the prettiest little Wilton Kit at Walmart. This was the first time that I just handed the kids the box and let them go to town without any supervision, and I just love how it turned out!

Calendar Treason
For the first time in my adult life, I haven't purchased a wall calendar. I replaced the 2018 one with a Carl Larsson print.

Color/Colour
I put my Instagram account through two different color applications tonight (colorkuler.com and yearofcolour.com) and am pleased with the colors that are represented my photographs. I didn't expect to see so much brown and I thought that there would be a bit more gray.

More Brekkie and Knitting
My sweet little middle son bought me a special mug as his Christmas present. I love that he chose one with an "M" on it for "Mama". He said that he thought about choosing one with an "E", but it didn't seem right since no one here calls me "Emily". I will treasure my Mama mug always.
I am still working on Christmas presents. I decided to knit my godchildren a little something to go with a wrapped gift, Unfortunately, I bought yarn and was unable to actually work on the four projects until today. The first gift I finished was the first of three Classic Kerchiefs. The pattern is quick and easy to follow. Hopefully the other two and a wee bonnet will fly off the needles before I see my little ones for Nativity.
