Joyous
Feast of the Meeting of the Lord! On this holy day, we remember the
Mother of God and Saint Joseph bringing the infant Jesus to the Temple
at forty days old, where he was presented to the righteous Simeon. Upon
seeing the Savior, Saint Simeon exclaimed,
"Lord, now lettest Thou Thy servant depart in peace, according to Thy word! For mine eyes have seen Thy salvation, which Thou hast prepared before the face of all people; A light for revelation to the gentiles, and for glory to Thy people Israel!"
This prayer is recited or sung at every Vespers
service in the Orthodox Church. We also bring candles to church today to
be blessed by the priest. I absolutely love this feast and was glad
that I was able to dart out of school to go to Liturgy between 7th and
8th grade math today.
