Tips for Drying Hydrangea?

I'd love some tips on drying hydrangea. This bouquet was from Pentecost and I hung it upside down to dry. Unfortunately, the hydrangea doesn't look too good... it shriveled up! I'd like to have dried flowers for the autumn and winter. Any ideas?

I work at a flower shop and when we want to dry hydrangeas we just bunch them together and hang them upside down from the rafters in one of the supply rooms.
They do discolor a bit, but they seem to dry nicely. You could always touch them up with a bit of color floral spray...

I know that there is a way to preserve them using silica gel-but we just do the old fashioned hang from the rafters approach...

this is not helpful for your situation, but 2 suggestions if you want dried hydrangea - one, find the big gigantic pale green ones (my florist calls them "big green hydrangea" :) they are gorgeous, and twice the size of the average bloom. If left in a vase, they dry with almost NO discoloration or shriveling. The other tip, hydrangea such as Annabelle and Oakleaf will dry beautifully if left on the bush. I left a bunch of Annabelle on my bush last summer, and by August they dried to a lovely green, and then I cut them and brought them in.

I have a gigantic hydrangea bush and have tried every method... the best seems to be to put them upright in a vase of water and simply never refill the vase. They will dry out slowly and keep their shape and color indefinitely. I have some in my daughter's room I dried two years ago that still look exquisite. Hope it helps1
