Haute Cuisine

Have you seen Haute Cuisine? It was recommended to me by one of our children's godmothers after I watched Babette's Feast. I finally had the chance to see it this week and I loved it! It's a French film, so I had to rely on subtitles, but I loved it!

All Creatures Great and Small

Who else is watching the remake of "All Creatures Great and Small"?  We are watching it as a family and love it!

Babette's Feast

I'm watching Babette's Feast for the first time today. It's lovely. I read the short story last year and am finally getting to the film.

Nigella

I recently discovered Nigella's fabulous cooking shows! How did I get by without them?

Belgravia

I am really enjoying the adaptation of Belgravia (available via Prime). Are you?

I See Fire

Recently I was listening to Pandora radio and "I See Fire" sung by Ed Sheeran came on.  I was shocked to discover that it was a song from the Hobbit soundtrack.  Our boys are on a huge The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings kick, so of course this has become a favorite song to listen to while we're in the car.  Here are the lyrics and two separate music videos that I enjoyed watching.

Oh, misty eye of the mountain below
Keep careful watch of my brothers' souls
And should the sky be filled with fire and smoke
Keep watching over Durin's son

If this is to end in fire
Then we should all burn together
Watch the flames climb high into the night
Calling out father oh, stand by and we will
Watch the flames burn on and on the mountain side

And if we should die tonight
Then we should all die together
Raise a glass of wine for the last time
Calling out father oh
Prepare as we will
Watch the flames burn on and on the mountain side
Desolation comes upon the sky

Now I see fire, inside the mountain
I see fire, burning the trees
And I see fire, hollowing souls
And I see fire, blood in the breeze
And I hope that you'll remember me

Oh, should my people fall
Then surely I'll do the same
Confined in mountain halls
We got too close to the flame
Calling out father oh, hold fast and we will
Watch the flames burn on and on the mountain side
Desolation comes upon the sky

Now I see fire, inside the mountain
I see fire, burning the trees
And I see fire, hollowing souls
And I see fire, blood in the breeze
And I hope that you'll remember me

And if the night is burning
I will cover my eyes
For if the dark returns then
My brothers will die
And as the sky's falling down
It crashed into this lonely town
And with that shadow upon the ground
I hear my people screaming out

Now I see fire, inside the mountain
I see fire, burning the trees
And I see fire, hollowing souls
And I see fire, blood in the breeze

I see fire, oh you know I saw a city burning (fire)
And I see fire, feel the heat upon my skin (fire)
And I see fire (fire)
And I see fire (burn on and on and mountains side)

Where'd You Go, Bernadette?

I burned through the Where'd You Go Bernadette book fast enough to get to see the film in the theater with my sister, Kate!  It was amazing and I can't wait to watch it again at home when in comes out!

The House of Eliott

Have you seen the series The House of Eliott? It's one of my favorite genres: Penniless Girls Make it Things Work While Remaining Cheerful (my other favorite genre is Arranged Marriage Turns into Head-Over-Heels Love). The House of Eliott was recommended to me by my sister, Kate, who found out about it from a friend and I'm really enjoying it! I had to inter-library loan the three seasons, so it might be tricky for you to find.

The Quiet Man

We're watching The Quiet Man for the first time. Have you seen it?

Sophia

My husband and I started watching the Russian miniseries, Sophia, on Amazon Prime today...  so far it is wonderful!  I love the costumes and sets!

Maudie

I can't stop thinking about a movie ("Maudie") I watched the other night...  and not just because Ethan Hawk looks just like he belongs to my husband's band of brothers, either.

Watching...

These are such neat programmes!  I think that I first heard about Tales from the Green Valley from Kyrie and then I noticed a link to Wartime Farm on YouTube!   Here is the complete list of shows that they have completed so far:

Tales from the Green Valley

A Tudor Feast at Christmas

Victorian Farm

Victorian Pharmacy

Edwardian Farm

Wartime Farm

I really like history and I am only a little ashamed to admit that I like reality television.  This is the best of both worlds!
