Saint Emilia

Saint Emilia's feastday is May 8th. I am very honored to be named for this saint as she was a wonderful example of wife and mother!

She was the mother of St Basil the Great, St. Macrina, St. Gregory of Nyssa and St. Peter of Sebaste. She had wanted to remain a life-long virgin, but was forced to marry. She bore nine children, and so thoroughly grounded them in Christian discipleship that at least four became recognized Saints in the Church. She founded a monastery in her old age, where she lived with her daughter Macrina, and where she entered into rest in the Lord on May 8th, 375. She is patron to those named Emily.

This icon of Saint Emilia was done by my friend, Paul Drozdowski, a wonderful Iconographer.

Many Years!

You share the same patron as my Emily. She celebrates her Name Day on January 1 though. When she found out that she had an option between the two dates, she decided to opt for the one on which she was assured would never fall on a fasting day. :) That's my girl.

With love in Christ,
