Third Time's the Charm?
Today was Father John's third surgery after being diagnosed with an abscess several years ago. We just arrived home and Father John is resting comfortably. The surgery was successful... they chose to do a different procedure than we were anticipating, but feel that it went well and that Father John should not have a re-occurrence of the problem. We won't know what his pain level will be for a few more hours, but the ride home from the hospital was uneventful. Thank you for all of your prayers and well-wishes!

Beautiful Treats
When we went to get the cake to serve after Silas' baptism on Saturday, we spotted these gorgeously decorated treats. Our daughter has recently discovered a talent for cake decorating and I would love to see if she can recreate these!

Mopping
I bought a new mop that arrived on Saturday and our youngest boy has taken it upon himself to clean nearly every floor in our house since then. He would have done the other two floors, but there have been plumbers here working in those locations. I bought a Linkyo mop with microfiber pads at my sister's suggestion and it really is an amazing system. I use my Mrs. Meyer's Multisurface Concentrate (in Honeysuckle) diluted with water in a spray bottle. If you dread mopping, this may work for you!!

Good Parishoners
It can be really hard to be the wife of a priest, but good parishioners who love you make things so much easier. Here's one of the many nice things our people do to encourage me each week: over a pound of fresh bacon for our breakfast tomorrow!

Overheard
We drew crosses on our kids' jerseys for basketball this year (they aren't allowed to wear chains for safety reasons). Here's a conversation between our son and a teammate:
"Why do you have the letter t on your shirt?"
"It is a cross. I am an Orthodox Christian."
"What's an Orthodox Christian?"
"Ask your mom what it is and she'll explain everything."

Goodbye, Christmas
It was sad to take down our Christmas decorations today, but we had a snow day and some time to get things done. I left up the eucalyptus garland on our console table and left up/set up a few wintry vignettes around the house for cheer. I adore winter and am so glad that we have a little snow and that it is properly cold now.

Feed the Birds
I've neglected my birds this winter and want to do a better job. I
filled the feeder this morning in preparation for a little bit (1" to
3") of snow we expect this weekend. This little tray reminds me of the
bird feeders in Gerda Muller's books.

Rose Perfection
I popped into my favorite local florist today to get a bunch of eucalyptus, but ended up leaving with three of the most perfect roses!

In the Warm Sun
My breakfasts are normally eaten before sunrise now, but I waited until after school drop off and a trip to the market today. It is glorious to eat in the sun on a frosty January morning.

In the Bleachers
I found the Persephone biannually that I didn't get a chance to read under the couch last night. It coordinates with today's outfit : my favorite grey pullover, yesterday's trousers, and my old boots with the ground down heels and a fresh polish.
I wish I had a video for you of our daughter playing defense! At one point she was hanging on to the ball and being lifted off the ground and swung by one of the girls on the opposing team.

Color
The sky today was so dramatic today. It seemed like there was going to be a big storm, but nothing came from them. I love muted colors of winter and I seem to be dressing in them unconsciously, too!
