Yarn Along: North and South...

I watched North and South this past week and was enthralled!  Amazon had the book by Elizabeth Gaskell available for free on Kindle, so I have been devouring that each evening before bed.  I also found that CraftLit is reading North and South for their podcast...  you can bet that I'll be listening to that!  My needles are still clicking away on the Grasshopper Shawl...  slow and steady wins the race!

  2. Yes, I also love North and South! After watching it, I too had to get my hands on a copy of the book. In a rare twist (for me) though, I preferred the movie over the book! Usually it's the reverse! Have you ever watched Wives and Daughters? It is also an adaptation of one of Elizabeth Gaskell's books. I would highly recommend it. The book is very good, as well.

  3. I have heard so many fabulous things about North & South! I think I might have to finally go find out what all the fuss is about. Lovely shawl; can't wait to see the finished product.

  7. I read North and South in college and loved it. I remember the part where her bracelets are clinking together and he was enthralled. Wow, they knew how to write back then. Such a thing as a man looking at a woman's wrist was steamy. Not like today!

I watched the movie later and loved it so much. The book was even better, but the movie... ah, the movie!

  9. I just watched North and South two weeks ago and loved it! I enjoyed how it showed both sides of the industrial revolution. I looked for the book at the library, but all they had was the book on CD, so I've been listening to it and enjoy it just as much as the movie.

  11. I've been listening to North and South on CraftLit and although I'm a couple chapters/weeks behind, have really been enjoying it. I can't wait to watch it after I've read it; I held off watching until after I had a chance to read it and then I found out Heather was going to podcast it.
    Your shawl is beautiful!!

  12. I love North and South too. I think the book and the movie complement each other -- where the book is weak (the ending), the movie does it better, but in so many places the book lends perspective and insight that the movie isn't able to give.
