Casting on is going much better this week. I was able to complete a small dolls washcloth during naptime today and then try casting on for a human sized one before the baby woke up. This week's problem is the fact that I get a long length of yarn between my needles on the first row I do after the cast on. I plan on googling that problem to see if there is a way to avoid that. I am loving these Yarn Alongs... they are keeping my motivated to continue working on my knitting! I am near the end of the blue yarn and am really looking forward to going to the store to find something new to knit with. Any suggestions?
I am in the midst of reading two books this week: Tom's Midnight Garden and The Gentle Art of Domesticity. It is too early to tell what I think about Tom's (it seems a little sci-fi and that is not my favorite genre), but I LOVE The Gentle Art of Domesticity and am dreading the library due date! It is chock full of gorgeous photographs and encouraging essays on creating a warm and lovely home... definitely worth checking out!
I made two doll washcloths for my daughter years ago and they still get regular play -- such a sweet little knitting project!
ReplyDeleteKnit with whatever feels good and appeals to you. That is my advice.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the great work!
You might want to try a different cast-on method. The backward loop cast-on will give you long gaps, but the Long-tail, or the cable cast-on, or the Knit On cast on won't.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet little project! I should get going on some doll things. They're so much faster!
I had exactly the same problem with my first row. I'll have to check out the other cast-on methods.
ReplyDeleteI really liked Tom's Midnight Garden but then I do like sci-fi (in a more old-fashioned sense, not in most of the modern garbage that poses as sci-fi).
Such a cute washcloth!! I'll need to check out The Gentle Art of Domesticity that sounds like a perfect summer read!!! Happy knitting!!!
ReplyDeleteI think you should buy something for the fall wardrobe, maybe a simple scarf? Then you can wear it :)
ReplyDeleteglad to know i am not the only 'newbie' on the yarn along! keep it up!

I know you want to find a natural, undyed cotton yarn. I've found Lily Sugar 'n Cream cotton yarn in a natural shade that made me think of you. Let me know if you want me to pick it up for you.
