I found this book at BJs on Thursday and whipped through all 387 pages! It was a good book in my opinion, but I only just read all of the Anne books last year so I am no Anne expert. I must say that I am thrilled that Anne and I share March 5th as a birthday, according to Mrs. Wilson (and maybe L.M. Montgomery and I just missed it!)!

I love the Anne books -- read them almost every year. I'm so excited to hear there is a prequel. I'll have to search it out after I'm finished with my current reading of the series (I'm on book 4).
ReplyDeleteWas the book sad? I can't imagine it being as "happy" as the original books. . . though Rilla of Ingleside was a tear jerkier.
I read the Anne books as a little girl, and can't wait to read it to my little girl! The first book is my favorite of all time.

I heard absolutely awful things about the prequel movie on the KS list (even worse than Anne 3), but I would like to read the book.
ReplyDeleteEmma, I think LMM does mention 3/5 as Anne's birthday, but it could be that fans have deduced that from other hints in the series. I know lots of folks have plotted the books on a timeline.
I grew up on Anne... I'll have to look for a copy of this book.

ReplyDeleteI'm a big Anne fan... and I read this book earlier this year. I loved it. I thought the author did a great job of trying to imagine how Anne must have been as a child. When you know the books well, you see a lot of threads that connect the prequel to LM's books. A lot of it was sad, but you get to see Anne's spirit shine through in tough times.

ReplyDeleteThe book was sad, but I knew that it was going to get better for Anne and that is what got me through it. There were also several wonderful characters in this book that helped Anne at different times and that made it a little easier to read the sad parts.

I watched the Anne movies and the Road to Avonlea series as a girl. I don't know why I never read the books... I loved to read! I still like the movies a lot and hope to own them someday!
Love the Anne series but in Italy is practically unknown except for the anime (japanese animated series) that was on tv in the '80s (when I was growing up), of the first book only
