That was too funny! I love Tim Hawkins! I was just thinking of teaching that to M. for an alternative bedtime prayer, but I think we'll stick with the prayer from Prayer for a Child for now!
ReplyDeleteSure Emma ;-)
ReplyDeleteFor all the things Tim Hawkins does in this skit is the very reason we don't say that prayer at bedtime. Instead we say the one my brother and I used to say every night before going to bed:
"Gentle Jesus, meek and mild,
Look upon this little child.
Keep me safe and sweet and strong,
Guide and keep me all night long.
God bless *insert names* amen
The God blesses can last forever w/ a child procrastinating bedtime ;-) Generally Reagan will say "God bless Mommy, Daddy, Victoria, Ben and all my little friends.
That was sooooo funny. I loved it!
ReplyDeleteThanks for a nice big belly laugh in the morning. A great way to start my day!
It is strange how several nursery rhymes, lullabies and prayers are scary. Who wants to sing to their baby, "When the bough breaks the cradle will fall, and down will come baby cradle and all"?
ReplyDeleteWe changed the bedtime prayer to:
"Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the Lord my soul to keep
May angels watch me through the night
and wake me with the morning light"
It is much more pleasant! :)
Reading these comments reminded me of a prayer my grandmother embroidered and put into a frame for me when I was very young. It hung over my bed for as far back as I can remember...
ReplyDeleteFather in Heaven, hear my prayer
Keep me in thy loving care
Be my guide in all I do
Bless all those who love me, too
I know it's been at least 20 years since I've said it. Maybe it's time to bring that one back... ;)
