A Busy Weekend...

We went on a little vacation/family visit this past weekend. On our way back to our home state of New Jersey, we stopped in Pennsylvania to visit Longwood Gardens. We had a great time checking out the grounds, gardens, tree houses, conservatory, Children's Garden, and miniature train!

We went to my brother's soccer game on Saturday morning and our daughter is so enamored with the sport that she has been "playing" it ever since!

After Liturgy on Sunday, my father-in-law's parish threw a party for him in honor of the anniversary of his thirtieth year as the priest of their parish - my husband was three months old when they arrived from Alaska! It was a lot of fun!

After the party, Fr. James took us to on a train ride to Pumpkin Junction... since trains and pumpkins are our daughter's favorite things right now, this trip was a big hit!

Monday was my husband's namesday and we celebrated by taking a trip to New York City. We spent most of our time at the Central Park Zoo, but also got in a little sightseeing and cupcake eating before going back to New Jersey.

After a big breakfast and visit with my mom, dad, and one sister, we headed back home. It was a great visit!

  1. I loved Longwood Gardens as a child! We keep trying to sneak a visit in when we visit my family in PA.

  5. Where in NJ are you from? My son's godparents are moving to NJ and I thought I would ask so I could help them find an Orthodox community there.
    Thanks!

  8. I'm wondering if you were at my cousins' church; did you encounter a family called Sanford?

  9. so fun, Em!

Where are Longwood Gardens? We're going with Matt to Pittsburgh in March and I'd love to go there if it were close by....my geography of PA is rusty at best :)

  11. What a great trip. I love cupcakes from Magnolia.

Longwood Gardens is possibly my very favorite place to visit. We live about 50 miles away from it these days, but we still go several times a year. We stayed in that area for our honeymoon, and we have visited sometime near our anniversary ever since. That is right before Christmas, and it's always just such a magical place at that time of year. They have great concerts sometimes too. I'm glad you had a good time!

  12. Are you anywhere near New Hope, PA? If so, you should check out the New Hope & Ivyland Railroad -- they have Polar Express rides beginning after Thanksgiving, and lots of other themed rides during the rest of the year. I think that after Christmas, their steam engine gets a rest, but even then, they still have tourist rides (including a Valentine's Day train ride...).

New Hope is just the other side of Lambertville, NJ, so unless you are down around Cape May, or up near the New York border, it shouldn't be more than a couple hours' drive.

  13. I had never heard of Longwood Gardens, until just now. I read about it on one friend's blog and then came over here next and saw this. :-)

  14. The church is in Manville, NJ. It is called SS Peter and Paul and is OCA. I'm not sure if there was a family called Sanford there, I'm sorry!
