While enjoying a cup of tea during Baby's nap yesterday afternoon, I decided to begin a list of skills and traits that every accomplish, feminine woman should know (and perhaps be able to teach her children). Here's what I came up with:
- Spirituality (i.e. prayer, reading the Bible, and other spiritual books, ability to be attentive and respectful during services at church and times of prayer, etc.)
- Grooming
- Dressing for one's body type
- A nurturing spirit
- A love and knowledge of music
- Skill in handcrafts (like sewing, embroidery, etc.) and making crafts (making own cards, wreaths, flower arranging, etc.)
- Decorating in the home
- Charm and etiquette
- Excerise (things like ballet, bike riding, hiking, horse back riding, playing ball, jacks, hopscotch, etc.)
- Cooking and Baking
- Setting the table, table manners, hosting a party or tea
- Cleaning
- Organization
- Penmanship
- Cultivation of a love of literature
- Laundry care
- Shopping (frugality, planning, etc.)
I would love to add to this list... what are your thoughts?
Wow, Emma, I can't think of anything to add to this list - ust thought of one - would something about charitable works fit?
ReplyDeleteThat's a great list! I couldn't think of much to add except maybe learning to be interested in others.
ReplyDeleteI would add budgeting and being frugal to the list.
ReplyDeleteThis may be included under the 'penmanship' category, but good correspondence would be something fitting for a lady - the ability to sit down and write a letter, a well written, well thought letter appropriate for the person to whom it is being sent.
ReplyDeleteAnother thing I thought of was patience. The ability to maintain a calm demeanor, have a calm response to any and every situation and person.
Great ideas, Joanne!
ReplyDeleteGreat list. I makes me re-evaluate some things in my own life because I feel that I fall short as a wife/lady. I know that I don't, but sometimes I just get those feelings that I'm not quite fitting in my role.
ReplyDeleteI think that we all fall short in one way or another... we aren't perfect after all:) It the fact that we try that counts!
ReplyDeleteI think intentional charity/almsgiving ought to be added to the list.
ReplyDeleteI think that you are right, Alana! Thanks!
